Residents of Bala in Port Carling are making their voices heard when it comes to improving their communities.
The Township of Muskoka Lakes is currently in the midst of a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for both communities and this summer they’ve been gathering feedback on what the public would like to see as part of those plans.
The community engagement phase of that project was completed at the end of June and staff are now beginning to draft plans for each urban center.
In Bala, the survey had 317 respondents. Of those 75% were over 45 years old, and 53% have lived in Muskoka for over 20 years. Priorities included a safe walking route, things to do year-round, and a variety of places to shop.
In Port Carling 232 people responded. Again, 75% were over 45 yrs. old, with 60% having lived in Muskoka for over 20 years. Priorities included safe walking route, things to do year-round, and a variety of additional parking.
The CIP is targeted for completion in September 2021.
