Due to ongoing concerns regarding water quality, the Town of Gravenhurst has announced the cancellation of swimming lessons at Gull Lake Park for this summer. During a recent council meeting, officials decided to enlist the YMCA to manage swimming lessons at their pool for the summer of 2025.
Traditionally, the Town has offered swimming lessons at Gull Lake for local residents. However, over the past few years, declining water quality has raised health concerns for swimmers, leading to the cancellation of these lessons.
Town staff informed the council that, despite efforts to improve water quality, issues remain, making it challenging to consistently provide swimming lessons at Gull Lake. The current change is anticipated to enable town staff to take steps aimed at enhancing water quality at the Gull Lake Park Beach.
As part of this effort, the town is initiating a new goose management program designed to reduce the goose population at the beach. This multi-faceted approach hopes to improve the overall water quality for swimmers in the future.
