Third-Time Impaired Driver Was Triple the Legal Limit

A Mono man is behind bars after pleading guilty to his third impaired driving conviction.

Brian Savoie, 50, of Mono, recently pleaded guilty in a Bracebridge court to driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood.

Court heard that on Dec. 23, 2024, at approximately 11:42 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle speeding along Highway 11 in Gravenhurst. During the traffic stop, the officer observed a case of beer inside the vehicle.

Savoie was arrested and later provided breath samples that registered 290 milligrams of alcohol — more than three times the legal limit.

The court also heard Savoie has a prior criminal record, including convictions for impaired driving in 2018 and refusing to provide a breath sample in 2021.

As a result of the latest offence, Savoie was sentenced to 120 days in jail, followed by 12 months of probation. He also received a five-year driving prohibition.
