This Guy Rocks!

It didn’t take long for Maverick Chambers to realize he absolutely loves curling.

Tagging along to the rink with his family to see his brother Everett, Chambers decided to take it up himself. Four seasons later, the now 12-year-old is rockin’ the rinks and winning competitions.

His mom Jenna says, “he registered for the youth program at Port Carling Curling and developed quite a passion for it there.”

That passion has led to some fantastic results recently.

At a Rockfest East qualifier in Lakefield in November, Chambers won the boys’ division and had the top overall scored out of the 24 participants at the event. Rockfest is a national event for young curlers and is hosted regionally throughout Canada.

“It feels really good to win high ranked events because when I joined curling, I didn’t even expect to leave my home club for any events and now I’m travelling all across Ontario,” he says. “It just makes me think that if you put your mind to it, you can do way more that you can ever expect.”

Rockfest East takes place from January 22 to 24, 2026 at the Dixie Curling Club in Mississauga. There will be 34 curlers from Ontario, 18 curlers from Northern Ontario, 16 curlers from Quebec, and four from Nunavut. Each will have an equal split between male and female curlers attending Rockfest.

This will be Maverick’s third time at the event, having made the finals last year as an 11-year-old, where he finished 12th overall. Considering this is a U15 event, that’s a pretty good performance against older kids.

But Maverick’s enthusiasm for curling goes beyond the results.

“What I love about curling is that everyone in the sport is always super nice and supportive even when you’re not on the same team,” he explains.

Prior to Everett moving up to the U18 division this year, the brothers competed together on a U15 team last season in the Junior Slam Series. In January, Maverick will be skipping (captaining) his own team from Port Carling that will take part in the Junior Slam Series.
