Tobacco smuggler gets hit with fine

A woman recently had to appear in court after attempting to smuggle tobacco into Beaver Creek correctional facility.

In a Bracerbidge courtroom Jessica Pupo, 41, pled guilty to attempting to bring contraband into the Gravenhurst facility.

Court heard that Pupo and another woman attended Beaver Creek on Sept. 2, 2024 for a public visitation of inmates. Corrections officers had reason to search the vehicle they arrived in and subsequently to pull Pupo out of her visit. Upon searching Pupo the officers found a quantity of tobacco taped to her leg.

She was ultimately fined $250.
