A man known for his fraudulent activities is facing justice after scamming a Huntsville resident out of tickets to the NHL All-Star Game. Todd Guthrie, 45, from Collingwood, was recently sentenced in a Bracebridge courtroom following a guilty plea to charges of fraud.
On July 27, 2023, a Huntsville man received a text from Guthrie, who offered to sell tickets and accommodations for the 2024 NHL All-Star Game for $500. After sending an e-transfer, the victim never received the tickets. Guthrie provided a series of excuses for the delay before ultimately ceasing all communication, prompting the victim to involve law enforcement.
The court revealed that Guthrie has a history of similar fraud offenses throughout the province. In a prior case on March 25, 2025, he received a 15-month sentence in Collingwood for defrauding 18 individuals out of approximately $30,000 worth of concert and hockey tickets that were never delivered. Local reports have dubbed him “Todd the Fraud” due to his notorious reputation in the Collingwood area.
Additionally, it was noted that Guthrie had previously been convicted of fraud in 2015, resulting in a six-month prison term. For his recent crimes in Muskoka, he has received a 30-day jail sentence to run concurrently with his Collingwood sentence, alongside requirements for restitution payments and 12 months of probation.
