Town donates to Hospital Foundation as part of seat sale

Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney recently presented a cheque for $18,882.16 to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (SMHF).

“The development of the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre was a community effort from start to finish,” said Maloney. “This generous contribution is a testament to the incredible support of our residents and businesses. By investing in both a state-of-the-art recreation facility, and our local hospital, we are ensuring a vibrant and healthy future for Bracebridge. We are proud to present these funds to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation and contribute to the important work they do.”

This contribution stems from the Best Seat in the House/Buy a Bay campaign, which aimed to raise funds for the development of the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre. Launched in June 2022, the campaign saw 417 seats and 80 library bays sponsored by community members, with 15% of the proceeds allocated to support SMHF.

This initiative provided individuals the chance to commemorate their involvement in the Muskoka Lumber Arena and Coulson Family Bracebridge Library while highlighting the community’s dedication to enhancing local healthcare.

Leah Walker, Executive Director of the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, accepted the donation and offered thanks for the community’s support. The funds will aid their annual capital fundraising campaign, which focuses on acquiring critical medical equipment to maintain quality healthcare for Muskoka residents and visitors.
