From South Muskoka Minor Hockey:

Cavalcade Ford U15 Rep team win championship

This weekend Midland hosted the regional playoffs and the U15 boys responded like they always do ready to compete.

Our quarter final game against Huntsville we came out fast and furious never letting off the gas scoring 9 times to beat Huntsville 9-2. The semi final game against Collingwood was much like our first game, the Bears came out firing pucks scoring 3 times in the first to take a commanding lead winning the game 6-3.

This setup the Regional final between Midland the South Muskoka these two powerhouse teams have won, lost and tied when playing each other this season. It was a close game, lots of pucks and bodies flying, end-to-end action but South Muskoka scored first, 31 seconds into the 2nd period to take the lead. Midland wouldn’t let that go unanswered and scored early in the beginning of the 3rd period to tie it up but South Muskoka’s determination, effort and motto “NO MERCY” kept them coming back for more, we took the lead again at the 9-minute mark of the 3rd period and never let go. Stellar goaltending from Edwin Guthrie kept us in the game as he turned away shot after shot from Midland’s offense. South Muskoka demonstrated excellent penalty killing throughout the game, fighting off a 5 on 3 and killing a total of 6 penalties throughout the game while our power play stuck twice to clinch the title Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Regional Champions!

This team had a GAA of Plus 94 this season, they simply dominated their opponents at all ends of the ice.

Way to go Bears! Onto the OMHA finals next weekend

Muskoka Kia U15 AE win Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Tier 3 Regional Championship

In a year where the the Muskoka/Georgian Bay U15 Tier 3 Division has been extremely close and competitive, every team knew they had a chance to win the Regional Championships. After the round robin portion of the playoffs, the Muskoka Kia South Muskoka U15AE Bears were ranked 2nd heading into the final tournament. In the semi-finals, the Bears faced off against the South Grey Spartan Rep team. South Muskoka came out hard and built to a 3-0 lead, but South Grey pushed back to 3-2 at the end of the second period. Early in the third period, captain Ethan Boland regained the momentum for good to put them away 4-2.

In the championship final a trip to Windsor for the OMHA Red Hat Championships was on the line.

The South Muskoka Bears and our arch rivals the Orillia Terriers were ready. Orillia drew first blood, but the Bears responded quickly to tie it at one. It was fast and well played, with several thunderous hits, good plays and great saves. South Muskoka inched ahead 2-1, but Orillia tied it at 2 before the end of the second. At the intermission the boys knew they would all need to be at their best to get it done. The Bears struck first in the third to take the lead with Kellan Shaw’s hat trick goal – the excitement in the rink was palpable. Orillia dug in and tied it, and then with 5 minutes to go, took the lead. Coach Curtis Livingstone took a timeout and refocused the crew. With under 2 minutes left the Bears tied the game! The first 10-minute Overtime solved nothing. The second Overtime was well underway when assistant captain Palmer Boyde backhanded a rebound over the sprawled Orillia goaltender for the win! Muskoka Kia U15AE Bears – Tier 3 Regional Champions!!

Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, parents and supporters for coming with us on the ride this year. We are looking forward to great games and success at the OMHA Championships in Windsor April 8-10, 2022.
