United Way and YWCA celebrate Getting Ahead Across Muskoka program

On Friday November 8th, YWCA staff and representatives from United Way Simcoe Muskoka will be holding a public recognition event to acknowledge the 3 year funding of Getting Ahead Across Muskoka. The announcement will be at 1:00pm at the Salvation Army Church in Bracebridge preceded by a lunch with attendees at a Bridges out of Poverty training that prepares volunteers to work with YWCA on community poverty reduction initiatives. All are welcome.

YWCA Muskoka is the lead organization, and 2024 recipient of a three-year Collaborative Grant of $315,151 from the United Way Simcoe Muskoka, working with community partners to extend the Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ By World program to those living more rurally and those who have been historically underserved by community programs. The grant emphasizes partnerships and collective efforts to address and reduce poverty in our region.

“This project has already resulted in the formation of a lived experience advisory group, created 3 new jobs and it’s really exciting to see new community relationships forming between agencies that often work separately. ” said Justin Richardson, Getting Ahead Coordinator for YWCA Muskoka.

“For a smaller local charitable organization such as YWCA Muskoka, this opportunity will greatly enhance our ability to provide quality services across the region.” said Hannah Lin, Executive Director of YWCA Muskoka.

Through this grant, YWCA Muskoka has already been able to revise curriculum, ensuring it is relevant for youth and women and groups have started this fall in Dwight at the Public Library, in Gravenhurst at Employment North and in partnership with Elizabeth Fry Society at Alex’s Place.
