Wayback Wednesday: Glen Home Hotel, Glen Orchard

From the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre:

The Glen Home Hotel in Muskoka was a historic, art deco-style hotel on Lake Joseph, built in 1939, later becoming the Marygrove retreat for nuns. The Glen Home was built by Lambert Love of Elgin House. Around the time of his retirement, Mr. Love moved directly across the lake to built Glen Home for his two sons, Paul and John. The hotel was much more modern than Elgin House. It had 36 rooms with all having their own private screened porch and all but four had their own private bathrooms. Glen Home was renowned for its food, especially its famous blueberry pie. In 1975, the Love brothers decided to sell the hotel to an order of Roman Catholic nuns, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, who renamed it “Marygrove”. The Sisters sold the property in 2008 and the property made way for private cottages.
