Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971), nicknamed “Satchmo”, “Satch”, and “Pops”, was an American trumpeter and vocalist. He is among the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades and different eras in the history of jazz.
Dunn’s Pavilion was converted into a concert hall in the summer of 1942. The venue saw such notable acts as Cab Calloway, the Dorsey Brothers and Duke Ellington in its early years. Renamed the Kee to Bala in the 1960s, it continues to draw some of the biggest names in music from Drake and Snoop Dog, to Rush and Blue Rodeo.
