“The Muskoka Battalion in WW1 was the 122nd (Muskoka) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). It was recruited in the Muskoka district starting in late 1915, mobilized in Huntsville, Ontario, and sailed to England in June 1917. Upon arrival in England, the battalion’s members were absorbed into other units as reinforcements for the Canadian Corps.
Recruitment: The 122nd Battalion was recruited in the Muskoka area, with its headquarters in Huntsville, Ontario.
Mobilization: It was officially mobilized in Huntsville and Bracebridge, Ontario, by October 1916.
Deployment: The battalion embarked for England on the troopship Olympic on June 2, 1917, and arrived on June 9, 1917.
Fate: After arriving in England, the battalion was disbanded, and its soldiers were used as reinforcements for other units already fighting in Europe.
Leadership: The battalion’s Officer Commanding was Lieut-Col. D. M. Grant. “
