Wayback Wednesday: Wreck of the SS Medora

These photos were posted by Mike Butt in Vintage Muskoka.

The caption reads: “The wreck of the SS Medora. The Medora was withdrawn from service in 1931, the reason being business had become slack. In 1933 she was fitted up In drydock and relaunched. All of this was done in hopes that better times would come, they didn’t. On June 1, 1940, a group of boys snuck onboard and accidentally started a fire. The fire gutted the interior of the Medora. That was the final nail in the coffin for the Medora. By 1945 her upper works were gone and in 1947 her forward steel bulkhead was removed and was put into the RMS Segwun. By 1952 her hull was gone. Truly a sad end for the old flagship of the Muskoka Navigation Company.

These three photos are from the Henry Fry collection at the public archives”
