Windshield smashing spree leads to jail time

A Gravenhurst man’s tendency to smash windshields has landed him a stint in jail.

Earlier this week Gordon McDiarmid, 54, pled guilty to multiple offences including possession of cocaine, mischief, failing to attend court and failing to attend court-ordered rehab.

The court heard that in October, 2019, a taxi cab driver reported that he had been dispatched to pick up the accused. When the cab arrived to pick him up, McDiarmid was in an argument with someone else and the cab driver attempted to separate them. McDiarmid then proceeded to attack the taxi and another vehicle smashing in both of their windshields.

Court heard that in a separate incident in July 2020 McDiarmid smashed in the windshield of his landlord after they became involved in a dispute.

Then on January 11, 2021 police received a complaint about a disturbance. When they attended they found McDiarmid in possession of 4.7 g of cocaine and digital scales.

Court heard that McDiarmid has a lengthy criminal record and a history of non-compliance with court orders.

He was sentenced to 129 days in custody and 12 months probation.
