From YWCA Muskoka
Summer camp is seen as a rite of passage for many kids, especially here in Muskoka. However, the cost keeps camp out of reach for many.
YWCA Muskoka is kicking off its Send a Girl to Camp fundraising campaign, which will provide subsidies for female-identified youth to YWCA Muskoka day programs, Girlz Unplugged Summer and Girlspace Leadership.
1 in 5 applicants request financial assistance for YWCA Muskoka’s week long summer programs, which costs $210. The day camp promotes self-esteem and confidence building, healthy relationships, environmental leadership and community engagement. The Send a Girl to Camp campaign will provide subsidies for this summer to allow every applicant to attend camp despite financial barriers.
The Send a Girl to Camp campaign hopes to raise enough funds to enable YWCA Muskoka to increase the number of accessible spaces in future years. Each summer we have a waiting list of girls who would like to attend this safe space for personal growth. Girlz Unplugged and Girlspace Leadership were programs developed in Muskoka for rural youth and have a proven track record for adding value to the lives of young women.
‘Every girl in Muskoka should be a part of this program, it is life changing’.
