The Bracebridge Rona is set for a change of venues.

During the most recent Bracebridge development committee meeting, Council heard that the home improvement center is set to relocate to the corner of Highway 118 West and South Monck Drive.

The current location of the Rona on Entrance Drive in downtown Bracebridge was purchased by the town of Bracebridge in 2017. The town plans to redevelop the property and transform it into a tourist friendly destination with splash pads and riverside picnic areas.

The development committee heard that the location of the new Rona will be adjacent to the Muskoka Highlands driving range.

It will consist of a 21,000 square foot Rona store, a separate 15,000 storage warehouse and 97 parking spaces.

Council heard from staff that a new turning lane is planned for the intersection on Hwy 118, and will proceed at some point whether the new Rona development is constructed or not.

While there were no concerns received from the public over the application, council had questions about potential flooding on the property and heavy trucks causing damage to South Monck Drive.

In the end, staff and planning consultants for the development did enough to assuage any concerns of council and they voted unanimously to move the matter forward for approval at the regular council meeting.

There was no word on when the new Rona would begin construction.
