Nurses holding rallies at Bracebridge and Huntsville hospitals

Registered nurses (RNs) at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) will rally tomorrow in Bracebridge and Huntsville to call for safe staffing levels and staff retention.

The Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) members will hold two rallies on Saturday, May 25 – from 10 to 11 am in Huntsville and from noon to 1 pm in Bracebridge. More than 100 RNs will be joined by ONA Provincial President Erin Ariss, RN, First Vice-President Angela Preocanin, RN and ONA Region 4 Vice-President Grace Pierias, RN, along with community allies. The RNs and ONA leaders will call on MAHC leaders to put greater effort into retaining and recruiting registered nurses, with the goal of ensuring patient safety and quality care.

ONA is the union representing more than 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.

*Note: rally participants will meet at the hospital entrance sign at 100 Frank Miller Drive and march to Huntsville Place Mall shortly after for speeches.
