Barrie Police investigation leads to Huntsville
A significant police presence continues in the area of Yearly Road near Cardwell Lake Road in Huntsville. The OPP is assisting Barrie Police with an ongoing investigation.
Barrie Police have indicated that the investigation in Huntsville is related to an active investigation in the wooded area between Victoria St., John St., and Anne Street South in Barrie. According to locals on social media, that is also the area of a homeless encampment.
Barrie Police Service is thanking the public for their ongoing patience as their investigation continues. Detectives from the Barrie Police Service Major Crime Unit, as well as additional resources from Investigative Services, are still present at both the Barrie and Huntsville sites.
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, a 52-year-old male, the primary suspect in this investigation, was arrested and remains in custody.
“We thank the OPP and the public for the information and assistance that ensured this individual was located,” noted the Barrie Police Service on social media today.
Barrie Police stated that, as the investigation permits, further information will be shared with the public. To ensure that detectives can conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation, the Barrie Police Service is not able to provide additional details. At this time, the investigation is isolated, and police will continue to be on the scene until further notice.
