Members of Council will consider updated compensation levels for the 2026–2030 term at the General Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 3.
Staff are recommending that Council receive Staff Report CS001-26, which outlines a review of Council compensation based on a comparison with similar municipalities across the region.
If approved, the new base compensation rates would take effect on November 18, 2026, the date of the inaugural meeting for the next term of Council. Under the proposal, the mayor’s annual base salary would be set at $55,171, the deputy mayor’s salary at $36,796, and councillors would receive $29,821.
According to the report, the Town worked with its compensation consultant to assess pay levels across a group of comparable municipalities, including Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Midland, Wasaga Beach, and several surrounding townships.
As part of the compensation review for the 2022–2026 term, the Town established the 65th percentile of its municipal comparator group as the benchmark for Council compensation. The current recommendation continues to follow that approach.
The report also recommends that Council compensation be adjusted annually beginning January 1, 2027, using the same percentage increase approved for non-union staff. Staff note that applying annual economic adjustments is a common practice in the municipal sector and helps prevent larger, periodic compensation increases.
The total estimated full-year cost of adjusting Council salaries to the 65th percentile is $16,584, not including future annual economic adjustments.
Council will review the report and consider any changes before making a final decision.

A Barrie councilor gets $40,983 per year plus $2400 per year car allowance.
I don’t see the pay raise as much of an issue as the number of councilors. The City of Barrie has 10 councilors with a population of 174,442 which is 17,442 people per councilor. We have a population of 19,129 with 8 councilors which is 2,391 people per councilor. Do we have too many councilors?
A great picture of the Bracebridge Council…too bad you didn’t identify each member…you can’t assume your readers know all of these dedicated local politicians Gary Denniss, a consistent follower of the Doppler. .
So the Mayor gets a 14% increase and deputy mayor about 12.5%. Note that the Town doesn’t talk about the percentage increase but just gives the new recommendations.
Why do they do that? Because it’s embarrassing on top of the 5% tax increase??? Why they hide? Hibernating? 20% of the Town folks live in poverty conditions.
No increase should be permitted. Put this money to organs do children have proper winter coats and don’t go to school hungry., Shame on them !!!
