A Bracebridge driver was recently sentenced with regard to an accident that sent two men to the hospital.
Appearing in a Bracebridge courtroom Brandon Ritchie, 26, pleaded guilty to refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample.
Court heard that on March 27, 2020, the OPP were on patrol at roughly 1:30 a.m. in Bracebridge when they spotted a vehicle driving over the speed limit and swerving. The police attempted to give chase but lost the suspect’s vehicle. However, they were able to eventually catch up with the vehicle when they found it crashed into a tree in front of a residence in Bracebridge with the hazard lights on, court heard.
The police saw two men getting out of the vehicle and both were taken to the hospital and released.
The driver of the vehicle, Ritchie, refused police demands to provide a breath sample.
He was sentenced to a one-year driving ban and a $2,100 fine.
