Bracebridge Fire and Muskoka Paramedic Services will be canvassing neighbourhoods in the urban areas of Bracebridge on Monday, November 28 from 6 to 9 pm to collect non-perishable food items in support of the Salvation Army South Muskoka food bank. Residents interested in participating are asked to place donations on their front porch by 6 pm and ensure their porch light is on for awareness and safety. Food donations can also be dropped off at the Salvation Army Bracebridge Community Church at 456 Manitoba Street.
The Salvation Army South Muskoka assists individuals and families throughout the year through initiatives like the Christmas hamper program, food and toy drives, and the annual kettle campaign.
“The Bracebridge Fire Department is excited to partner with the Muskoka Paramedic Services and Salvation Army South Muskoka again this year for the food drive and are looking forward to going back to our door-to-door collection format,” says Murray Medley, Fire Chief, Town of Bracebridge. “There are many people in the community who rely on food banks throughout the year and extra help during the holidays. We encourage residents of Bracebridge to give what they can to ensure that all members of our community have a happy holiday season.”
During the holiday season, pressures for a person or family in need increases and community support is needed. Families that struggle to put food on the table are challenged to find additional funds from their budgeted needs to provide a special meal or gifts for family and friends. With the increase in cost of living and inflation, more individuals and families are turning to foodbanks for much needed relief, some for the first time.
“We feel honored and blessed to be able to partner with Bracebridge Fire and Muskoka Paramedic Services to help support the community and to meet their needs both materially, but also spiritually and relationally. When a community gathers around each other we can see such love and support that can make even the worst days seem a little better.”
– April Keeping, Corps Officer/Pastor, Salvation Army South Muskoka Ministries
