A Muskoka man will be spending several months under house arrest after being convicted of multiple violent outbursts in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.
Last week in Bracebridge court Matthew Dupuis, 32, of Bracebridge pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and another count of mischief.
Court heard that on November 27, 2020, Dupuis attended a residence in Bracebridge where a number of people were gathered. Dupuis was heavily intoxicated and got into an argument with another man there. He pushed the victim and then began punching him in the face and continued hitting him. Court heard that when a woman tried to intervene, Dupuis grabbed her and threw her to the floor.
Dupuis then chased another man outside, catching up to him in the street and punching him in the face while saying he would kill him. The victim eventually got away and Dupuis began kicking the victim’s vehicle.
On May 22, 2021 Dupuis was involved in a disturbance at another residence. When a neighbour came over and attempted to restrain him, Dupuis then threatened to kill the neighbour.
Then on August 19, 2021, police were called to a disturbance in Gravenhurst. Court heard that Dupuis was again heavily intoxicated and asked to leave a residence. He then proceeded outside to the victim’s garage where he began to destroy multiple items.
Dupuis was ultimately sentenced to 120 days of house arrest and two years of probation.
