From South Muskoka Breakers Basketball:
The U14 boys team brought the heat to frigid North Bay last weekend for the Kings of the North tournament, and came away with a silver medal finish after an impressive show of skills and teamwork.
In the opening seconds of the first game, Charlie Parsons scored his first of many 3-pointers, and the team never looked back, dominating the Sturgeon Falls team 61-30. Charlie Parsons and Drew Bradley led the scoring, while Ross Gordon, Cole Edwards, and Clarke Natoli held down the fort under the net, grabbing a total of 25 rebounds.
The North Bay Spartans team presented more of a challenge, but our team’s well-executed plays and hustle resulted in an exciting 46-40 win over our hosts. Charlie Parsons dominated the scoring, while Elias Shanks put up the most rebounds, and Clarke Natoli and Hayden Banks each made a few key steals to turn the tide of the game.
The next day, they played Sault Ste Marie for a spot in the gold medal game, once again coming out on top with a score of 65-39, with Jonah McCreadie playing a key role with his all-around strong offensive and defensive play.
The boys fought hard against the Sudbury Storm team in our final game, and while we couldn’t match their powerhouse offence, we did hold them to their lowest score of the tournament, and scored more points against them than any other team managed to do. Ethan O’Rourke’s breakout performance helped to keep us alive against this strong Sudbury team.
Overall, it was a great weekend of basketball, with all players scoring and contributing to the success of the team.
