Concerned employees get potential impaired driver off the road

A Gravenhurst woman was recently in a Bracebridge courtroom stemming from an Oct. 23, 2023 incident.

Appearing in court on Dec. 9, Tanya Pender, 51, pled guilty to refusing to comply with a breath demand.

Court heard that on Oct. 23, 2023, at 11:17 pm an employee from a Gravenhurst bar and restaurant contacted police regarding a potential impaired driver. The caller reported that Pender was visibly intoxicated at the bar and removed from the establishment but then proceeded to get into her car.

Court heard that when police arrived they found Pender in her running vehicle. There was also a glass of beer in the cupholder.

Court heard Pender refused to leave the vehicle and had to be forcibly removed. She also refused to take a breath sample and was charged accordingly.

She was ultimately sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.
