Council considers changes to Lakeside Waste Collection for upcoming season

The District of Muskoka is preparing to implement several adjustments to its Lakeside Waste Collection program, set to begin next month. During this week’s Engineering and Public Works meeting, council members will review the program and vote on proposed modifications.

Lakeside Waste Collection serves residents of island and water-access communities who have moved away from previous bin site services and do not have curbside collection or easy access to waste drop-off facilities. The program allows residents to dispose of their waste at designated locations on pre-scheduled dates and times.

Based on data and feedback collected from 2024, staff members are recommending multiple changes to the program. Key proposals include the addition of an event location in the Township of Muskoka Lakes to assist the community affected by the East Bay Landing bin site transition. Additionally, the event at Foots Bay / The Cove marina will be reinstated for 2025 on a trial basis, with participation levels to be evaluated as part of the 2026 program.

In the Town of Gravenhurst, two new event locations are being suggested to support communities impacted by the transitions at Campbell’s Landing and Villas Marina and North Morrison Lake. Service at the North Morrison site will commence on May 18, 2025, while Glen Echo will begin in September 2025.

The Township of Georgian Bay will also see the addition of an event location, offering both midweek and weekend services to accommodate the community affected by the transitions at Go Home Lake Marina and Minors Bay Road parking lot. This service will roll out in July/August.

The 2025 Summer Lakeside Waste Collection program will run from May 18, 2025, to October 12, 2025.
