A man pleaded guilty to impaired driving in Bracebridge last week following an incident where his car struck a tree.
Court heard that on April 17, 2021, police received a call about a single-vehicle collision in Milford Bay. When they arrived police found a pick-up truck that had struck a tree.
Two men were located nearby and Jeremy Ward, 45, said he had been attempting to move the vehicle to park it elsewhere when he had somehow lost control and crashed into the tree.
He admitted to consuming alcohol and in court he was fined $1,500 and banned from driving for one year.
Smashed TV gets probation
A Huntsville man pleaded guilty to mischief in Bracebridge court after admitting to smashing his partner’s television.
Court heard that on May 24, 2021, the Huntsville police were called to a residence after a woman reported that her partner had destroyed her television set while her eight-year-old child was present.
The 35-year-old man denied breaking the TV at first but the police subsequently found it smashed and hidden under a bed.
Court heard the man has a long history of related offences, ranging from robbery and theft to assault and resisting arrest.
They also heard that the woman was in labour at that very moment and the lawyers’ arguments were brief so the man could attend the birth, as requested by the victim.
Ultimately he was sentenced to a conditional discharge and 15 months probation.
