A Mississauga man appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom to answer for his poor driving recently.
James McFarland, 39, pled guilty to driving while disqualified stemming from an accident that occurred on June 18, 2023.
The court heard that in the early morning hours that day, police received multiple phone calls about a vehicle that had crashed into a hydro pole. Callers reported the driver had fled the scene but there was now a hydro wire down and the roadway had become impassible.
Sometime later, McFarland attended the OPP detachment and admitted that he was a disqualified driver and had been involved in the accident. The police reported he was dirty and missing a shoe when he attended the detachment but otherwise uninjured.
Court heard McFarland has two previous convictions for impaired driving.
He was sentenced to a 60-day conditional sentence, a two-year driving ban and one year of probation.
