The District will officially increase capacity at the Rosewarne Landfill in Bracebridge Monday but available space at the site is becoming increasingly limited.
The District of Muskoka is officially opening Cell #4 at the Rosewarne Landfill on Jan. 22. This marks the completion of Cells 1–3 of landfill capacity. During an official ceremony Monday, the first load of material will be placed in the new cell, signaling the start of operations in this infrastructure.
According to a District press release, the opening represents a significant step in the District of Muskoka’s commitment to managing waste in an environmentally responsible manner.
With only five landfill cells remaining after Cell #4, sustainable waste practices are more critical than ever. Current estimates indicate that the Rosewarne Landfill has less than 15 years of usage left.
The District has said this is part of the reason they are currently in the midst of switching to a clear garbage bag system. The goal being that waste diversion helps extend the life of the landfill for as long as possible.
