District snowplowing proceeding slower than expected

District snowplowing proceeding slower than expected

From the District of Muskoka:

District road crews and our partners from the Area Municipalities and Fowler are hard at work clearing and plowing District roadways across Muskoka. Due to conditions, our winter maintenance operations are going a little slower than usual. We are deploying additional equipment, and existing trucks and plows will also extend their work to provide additional support to help get the work done as quickly and safely as possible.

We thank drivers for their patience, as it takes significant time for our crews to travel and clear the 730 kilometres of District roadways to the maintenance standards required.  Crews are hard at work to get this work done.

How can you help? Be prepared.

More snow is forecasted for today and into the weekend. If you are travelling in winter weather, please remember to take time to plan ahead and drive according to weather conditions based on your local forecast. Here are some other helpful winter driving tips to help make your trips as safe as possible.

Before you Leave:

  • Make sure you have your snow tires installed for the winter season
  • Ensure snow and ice are cleared off your vehicle (don’t forget your roof!)
  • Ensure your windows and mirrors are clear both inside and out
  • Ensure your vehicle is fully fueled or charged for your trip

When you are driving:

  • Leave extra distance between your vehicle and those in front of you
  • Turn on your lights to let others see you more easily
  • As always, wear your seatbelt
  • Put your phone away, and don’t use cruise control features
