A dangerous stunt by a driver on Hwy 11 didn’t fool the Bracebridge OPP, but it did land the driver in hot water.
Earlier this week, Joahan Lopez-Hernandez, 20, of London, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possession of cocaine and fentanyl, and driving while suspended.
Court heard that on Dec. 2, 2021, the OPP saw a Mercedes travelling northbound and doing 137 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone.
As the police attempted to stop the vehicle they saw the driver, Lopez-Hernandez, jump into the back of the moving car and the passenger slide over to the driver’s seat.
When the car was ultimately stopped, the police found two sealed bags inside – one containing 1.4 grams of fentanyl and the other containing 12.3 g of cocaine.
Court heard that Lopez-Hernandez was also a suspended driver at the time of the incident.
He was sentenced to $1,500 for dangerous driving and given a one-year driving ban, a suspended sentence and fined $1,000 for the drugs, and a suspended sentence and 12 months probation.
