June Movie Nights Lineup

June 12 – Voices Across the Water (Directed by Fritz Mueller)

There is a moment during the construction of a canoe when its true form is revealed: a hull  drops into place, and the elegant arc of a bow cuts forth. In much the same way, a person  may discover their true path at a pivotal moment in life.

The documentary Voices Across the Water follows two master boat builders as they practise  their craft and find their way back to balance and healing.

June 19 – Waterlife (Directed by Kevin McMahon)

Waterlife is a documentary film about the Great Lakes that follows the flow of water from the  Nipigon River to the Atlantic Ocean. The film takes viewers on a journey through an incredibly  beautiful ecosystem that is facing complex environmental challenges.

June 26 – Qatuwas: People Gathering Together (Directed by Barb Cranmer)  For thousands of years, the great ocean-going canoe sustained the cultural and spiritual  traditions of coastal First Nations. Over time, however, these sacred vessels nearly  disappeared.

In the 1980s, Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast began a powerful journey of cultural  rediscovery, carving cedar canoes from trees that had stood for centuries. In 1993, crews  from thirty First Nations embarked on an extraordinary voyage, paddling hundreds of

kilometres along ancestral waterways to gather at Bella Bella, British Columbia, in a historic  celebration of cultural resurgence.

Qatuwas: People Gathering Together powerfully documents the rebirth of the ocean-going  canoe and honours the healing strength of tradition and the resilience of Northwest Coast  Indigenous culture.
