From the Town of Gravenhurst:
Here’s what we are doing…
We are conducting a Council Composition and Ward Boundary Review.
The purpose of the review is to ensure that residents have equitable access to their elected representatives.
The current situation…
- Gravenhurst uses a five ward system.
- One councillor is elected to serve the residents of each ward.
- The mayor and three district councillors are elected at-large by all the residents of the town. The mayor also sits at district council.
Based on what the review determines, council could chose to maintain the status quo or make changes.
These changes could involve adjustments to existing ward boundaries, the creation of new wards, or the establishment of fewer wards. Another option would be to dissolve all wards and move to an at-large system.
