Gravenhurst half-load restrictions start March 4

The Town of Gravenhurst is implementing half-load restrictions starting March 4.

During the annual spring thaw period, typically early March to mid to late May, municipalities in the District of Muskoka place ‘half-load’ or ‘reduced/seasonal load’ restrictions on most roadways.

The town reminds truck operators that the purpose of seasonal load restrictions is to protect the road and road base from damage caused by heavy vehicle wheel loads, with the goal of increasing the lifecycle of municipal roadways. As frost comes out of the ground and moisture comes out of the roadbed, roads become softer and weaker, making them susceptible to permanent damage from heavy loads.

While the load restrictions are in place, truck operators travelling through the Town of Gravenhurst must use designated truck routes. This same requirement extends to designated District of Muskoka and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) highways.
