A Gravenhurst man who assaulted a cab driver and smashed his vehicle with a golf club was in a Bracebridge courtroom recently.
Colin Donovam 37, pleaded guilty to assault and mischief stemming from an incident that occurred on September 1, 2024.
Court heard on that day that the police were contacted about a potential assault.
Court heard that Donovan requested a cab, which drove him to an address in Gravenhurst. When they arrived and the cab driver woke Donovan up, he became irate. He began punching the driver in the head, breaking his glasses and tearing his shirt. Pulled out of the cab by his family, Donovan then attacked the cab with a golf club, damaging it. He also failed to pay the $60 tab.
The defence stated that Donovan has made a significant effort to improve himself since the incident.
“Colin Donovan has seen the light and he’s on the right path,” said the defense attorney.
Donovan was sentenced to a conditional discharge and six months’ probation.
