A Gravenhurst man is in jail after pleading guilty to his part in a prolonged, violent assault.
Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Joshua Hummel, 33, pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm and multiple breaches of court conditions.
Court heard that on Jan. 31, 2024, Hummel went to a residence in Gravenhurst where a verbal dispute between Hummel and another man occurred regarding a debt. Hummel then began punching the victim and others joined in the assault. The victim was pushed down the stairs and hit in the face with a bottle during the assault, which lasted between 4-5 minutes.
The victim was transported to hospital with significant injuries, including a broken orbital bone and glass lodged in his face.
Humell was on probation at the time of the incident and violated several court orders.
Hummel was sentenced to 12 months jail, less time served, and two years of probation.
