The Town of Gravenhurst is attempting to combat flooding in the Musquash Road area but it’s going to take a considerable amount of time and money.
During the most recent Gravenhurst Town council meeting, councillors heard a report from staff on major drainage improvements required for the Musquash Road area.
In 2022 the Town launched an environmental assessment on potential improvements from Musquash Road to Lake Muskoka. The improvements are intended to deal with continuing occurrences of nuisance flooding for residents along Musquash Road, Private Street and McPherson Street.
It is estimated the design and construction of the improvements, along with obtaining the necessary drainage easements, will cost roughly $3 million. Council has budgeted $2 million for the project under the 2023 and 2024 capital budgets. The remainder will need to come from future budgets.
According to town staff, the considerable scope of the project will require that it take place over several years.
