The Council of Gravenhurst has received the Emergency Funding Report, which outlines the administration’s plan to file a claim under the Municipal Ice Storm Assistance (MISA) Program. This claim aims to cover the costs incurred during the ice storm that struck in March 2025.
Treasurer Wayne Campbell emphasized the report’s significance, stating, “The purpose of the Emergency Funding Report is to inform council of administration’s intention to submit a claim… and to seek committee’s approval for administration to proceed with the claim process, with final costs to be determined and reported back as necessary.”
In response, the council has authorized staff to pursue an application to the province’s Municipal Ice Storm Assistance Program, pending a final assessment of all related expenses. Additionally, the council has instructed staff to provide a detailed report on the final claim and the outcome of the financial assistance application.
The severe ice storm that hit Muskoka from March 28 to 30, 2025, left a trail of destruction across the region, disrupting power and accessibility in numerous communities. The storm’s impact varied, with the southern parts of Muskoka facing particularly severe damage.
Earlier in March, council members sought provincial support for recovery from a significant snowstorm that occurred in late November and early December 2024. The damage report from that event indicated that the Town faced nearly $983,721 in expenses related to emergency response and recovery efforts.
As Gravenhurst prepares to navigate the aftermath of the March ice storm, residents and officials alike await further information on the support they can expect from provincial resources.
