Gravenhurst woman convicted in trailer stealing scheme

A Gravenhurst woman found herself in court recently to answer for her involvement in a scheme that resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

In a Bracebridge courtroom, Kerri Anderson, 40, pled guilty to theft over $5,000 and multiple counts of breaching court orders.

On March 22, 2023, the Muskoka Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) officers executed two search warrants in Gravenhurst and Brampton. Court hera the warrants were the end result of Project Downbeat, an OPP operation designed to catch those responsible for a string of trailer thefts.

Four people were charged as a result of the warrants, including Anderson. Court heard that on March 9, 2023, in Milton, ON, she helped another man hitch a stolen trailer up to her truck before she drove away. The trailer was valued at approximately $4,000 and the work equipment inside was valued at over $10,000.

Court heard Anderson had no previous criminal record.

She was charged again in March and May of 2024 with breaking the terms of her release.

She was sentenced to five days in jail, served pre-trial, 18 months probation and ordered to pay back $1,750 in restitution.
