Gravenhurst woman convicted of death threats

A Gravenhurst woman recently pled guilty to threatening to kill another woman’s entire family.

In a Bracebridge courtroom Jaimmie Wretham, 35, pled guilty to threatening death via text, stemming from incidents earlier this year.

Court heard that on Aug. 22, 2022 police were called to an address in Gravenhurst after a woman had received multiple death threats via Facebook Messenger. The threats, some 19 in total, included warnings to stay away from another man. In the messages, Wretham threatened to kill the victim and everyone she knew, and slit the throats of her children.

In passing sentence, Justice Cecile Applegate said the nature of the threats was particularly disturbing.

“I can well imagine how fearful she must have felt from the language used but also threatening her children,” said Applegate.

Wretham was given a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.

  1. Denise Cooper says:

In my opinion, the judge was far too lenient with the woman threatening a family with death. What about compulsory mental health evaluation???. This individual laughed her way out of the judicial system. She will be back in court again. This process is not teaching about the consequences of one’s actions.
