A call to police about a man hunting from the roadway led to criminal charges, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Wayne Holmes, 60, of Orillia, pled guilty to possession of a firearm without a license.
Court heard that on Nov. 6, 2023, Huntsville OPP received a call regarding a man hunting from the roadway. When police arrived and spoke with the man, Holmes, he said he was waiting for another group of hunters. The police observed a shotgun leaning up against a telephone pole nearby. Holmes admitted the shotgun belonged to him and he didn’t have a license.
Court heard this was not his first conviction for firearms offences.
Holmes was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest, followed by 12 months probation. He was also banned from owning a firearm for the next 10 years.
