Impaired driver convicted after getting stuck in snowbank

A Peterborough man found himself in court after getting his car stuck in a snowbank in Huntsville.

Appearing In Bracebridge court, Allan Wellman, 33,  of Peterborough pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Court heard that on Feb. 11, 2024, at roughly 1 am Huntsville OPP received a call from a homeover on Old Novar Road. The caller reported a man had come to his door requesting help to get his vehicle unstuck from a snowbank. 

The car was still stuck in the snowbank when the OPP arrived and police suspected the driver, Wellman, had been drinking. He admitted that he had and a breathalyzer sample resulted in readings of 140 mg of alcohol. 

Wellman was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a 12-month driving ban.
