A Huntsville driver who crashed into a tree on another person’s front lawn had his day in the Bracebridge courtroom last week.
Garrett McCoppen, 25, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood stemming from a Nov. 21, 2021 incident.
Court heard that on that day at 12:53 am they received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle collision on Fowlers Road in Huntsville.
According to the caller, they were awakened by the sound of an accident in front of their house. When they went outside they observed that a vehicle had crashed into a tree in their front yard. The driver, MCoppen, admitted to them that he had been drinking. When police arrived they could smell alcohol on his breath, court heard, and he also admitted to them that he had consumed alcohol.
He ultimately blew readings of 190 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. He was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.
