Impaired driver double the limit, hits pole

A Gravenhurst man will serve jail time after adding to his record of impaired driving-related offences.

Richard Gold, 60, recently appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom to plead guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.

Court heard that on June 15, 2023 a member of the public contacted police at roughly 5:30 pm after a car collided with a utility pole on David Street near Bethune Drive in Gravenhurst. The caller reported the driver of the vehicle appeared extremely intoxicated and was incoherent.

When police arrived the car was unoccupied but Gold was standing nearby. He initially denied having been the driver but the statements of witnesses contradicted that information.

Gold blew readings of 180 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, more than double the limit.

Court heard Gold has two previous related entries on his criminal record.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, to be served intermittently, and a two-year driving ban.
