Impaired Hwy 11 driver nabbed after allegedly striking the median

Concerned callers helped pull an impaired driver off Hwy 11, a Bracebridge court heard recently.

Joel Lizotte, 32, of Penetanguishene, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system. 

Court heard on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 8:40 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a concern from a member of the public about a motorist driving on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst. The caller reported that the vehicle struck the concrete median and continued driving. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 North near Highway 118 and subsequently arrested and charged Lizotte. He ultimately blew double the legal limit for alcohol in his system.

In court, Lizotte’s defense lawyer questioned whether he had struck the median.

Lizotte was fined $2,500 and given a 12-month driving ban.
