A Huntsville driver is facing a hefty fine after racking up two impaired driving-related convictions in six months.
Zackary Smith, 31, appeared recently in a Bracebridge courtroom to plead guilty to failing to provide a breath sample and driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, stemming from two separate incidents.
On May 2, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement when a vehicle was stopped for travelling at 164 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr limit. Upon speaking with the driver, police were led into an impaired driving investigation and an Approved Screening Device demand was made. The driver, Smith, failed and was arrested. He ultimately blew readings of 104 mg of alcohol.
Then on the evening of Oct. 25, 2024, Smith was pulled over again on King William Street in Huntsville after an OPP unit on patrol noticed his vehicle had no taillights on. Police smelled alcohol on his breath but Smith refused to provide a breath sample.
He was sentenced to a $5000 fine, a three-year driving ban and 12 months’ probation.

When are these idiots going to learn? Instead of a 3 year driving ban ( which doesn’t seem to work) and a 1 year probation period just slap their a** in jail for 4 years and see if that changes their behavior. If not just keep increasing their jail time! This is getting ridiculous. J.M.H.O.
