Lake assessments underway in South Muskoka

A number of lakes in South Muskoka are now under the microscope as part of the Love Your Lake program.

The Love Your Lake program assesses the health of your lake and encourages lakefront residents to take stewardship action. The program offers resources and training to local organizations, which enables them to deliver engaging and effective programs to help landowners protect and restore their shorelines, benefitting the property and improving the health of their lake and wildlife habitat.

Muskoka Watershed Council is the delivery agent for the Love Your Lake program in Muskoka with the assistance of The District Municipality of Muskoka.

As part of the program each waterfront property owner on the lake will receive a property-specific report that includes an assessment of the waterfront area as well as detailed actions that the property owner can take to protect this valuable habitat.

Since it began in 2013 the program has assessed thousands of properties from dozens of lakes across Muskoka.

This summer technicians are already hard at work examining properties on Loon Lake in Gravenhurst (198 properties), Turtle Lake in Gravenhurst  (104 properties), as well as Mary Lake in Huntsville (299 properties) and Menominee Lake in Lake of Bays (116 properties).
