A Gravenhurst man was recently sentenced for his role in the theft of invaluable historical items from the Gravenhurst Legion.
Jessie Dawson, 35, of Gravenhurst recently pleaded guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom to theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with the terms of his probation.
On November 16, 2024, police began an investigation into the theft of irreplaceable items stolen from the Royal Canadian Legion in Gravenhurst.
Court heard that the manager of the Legion told the OPP suspects were caught on surveillance camera stealing a number of items, including WWI battle flags, medals, ID books, and dishes from the Table of Remembrance.
Further information was provided that the suspect had listed the stolen items on an online marketplace.
Dawson said he was heavily under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Court heard Dawson has a criminal record.
He was sentenced to 120 days in jail and two years of probation.
