Man sentenced to five months for series of incidents in Bracebridge

A man has been sentenced to five months in custody after a series of incidents in Bracebridge last fall that included trespassing, property damage and breaching a court order.

Andrew Bennett, 29, pled guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom recently to multiple counts of mischief and breaching court orders.

Court heard that on Sept. 16, 2025, at about 5:50 a.m., the man attended a Tim Hortons where he was denied service because he was trespassing. After being refused, he pushed the door open, breaking off the handle.

On Oct. 2, 2025, a woman reported seeing him trespassing at Food Basics. Court heard he was belligerent in the parking lot and damaged a vehicle. Police with the Ontario Provincial Police investigated and learned he had earlier purchased beer from the LCBO before walking through the grocery store parking lot. While there, he struck a vehicle’s headlight with a beer can and scratched the car.

The court also heard he breached the terms of a court order. He had previously been charged with assault against another man and was prohibited from communicating with him. However, on Oct. 8, 2025, at about 7 a.m., he approached the man at Tim Hortons and asked him for a cigarette.

He was on probation at the time of the incidents.

The man was sentenced to five months in custody.
