From the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre:
RMS SEGWUN, VERY DISAPPOINTING NEWS
While doing routine inspections yesterday in preparation for the start of RMS Segwun’s sailing season, our engineering crew discovered a serious mechanical problem that cannot be rectified in the near term so we are extremely disappointed to announce she will not be sailing in 2025.
We are contacting everyone who has purchased a ticket for this season to make alternate accommodation aboard her sister ship Wenonah II and apologize for the inconvenience.
John Miller President said “the mechanical problem was a surprise because we have been routinely testing all aspects of Segwun’s mechanical system and there has been no indication of any issues despite her age. Safety is our number one priority, so we made the painful decision to cancel the season and execute appropriate repairs.”
Plans have been announced of a major restoration of RMS Segwun to commence in the fall of 2025 subject to confirmation of funding. The restoration plan will enable RMS Segwun to sail for the next 25 plus years.
