Minister of Economic Development to host roundtable in Muskoka

Business leaders, policymakers, and economic experts from Parry Sound, Almaguin, and Muskoka are invited to participate in a public roundtable aimed at addressing trade policies, tariffs, and economic stability. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the District of Muskoka Council Chambers in Bracebridge.

This roundtable, a collaborative effort with the Seguin Business Association, regional Chambers of Commerce, and the District of Muskoka, follows a similar event held in Parry Sound in April.

Attendees can look forward to a speaker panel featuring representatives from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Business Development Bank of Canada, and Global Affairs Canada. The discussion will focus on strategies for overcoming trade barriers, enhancing business resilience, and fostering regional collaboration.

Graydon Smith, the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade, along with MPP for Parry Sound–Muskoka and Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing, will be present at the event. Jeff Lehman, Chair of the District of Muskoka, will open the evening with introductory remarks.

“After the initial roundtable, it was clear that there is a strong desire for ongoing dialogue and action regarding the trade challenges impacting our communities,” stated Chair Jeff Lehman. “This roundtable aims to build on that momentum, offering a space for sharing insights and collaborating on actionable next steps.”

According to a press release from the District, this event will provide participants with valuable insights into how recent federal decisions may influence local businesses. Attendees will also receive practical strategies for adapting to changing trade and economic conditions, while engaging directly with policymakers and economic leaders.

The event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join in person or via livestream. Admission is free, but registration is required.

A survey is available for attendees to submit questions for the panel: www.surveymonkey.com/r/TariffRoundtable2025.
